Here’s my food allergy story:
In 2001 my daughter Bella was born. She was born allergic to dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and beef. It was a long and difficult process learning what she could and could not eat.
When her first birthday rolled around, I realized that I would need to find a good dairy and egg free cake recipe, because there wasn’t a bakery in sight that offered celebration cakes to allergy kids. Did such a recipe exist? Why yes they did, along with a wonderful organization called FAAN which sent monthly newsletters with wonderful recipes. Bella enjoyed a delicious chocolate cake, and got to lick the bowl and spoon.
Luckily she outgrew her egg and peanut allergy, but is still allergic to dairy, beef and certain tree nuts.
When I realized that a child with food allergies, couldn’t have a beautiful cake in our area, I started a business called Bee’s Delights. We called Bella Bee back then, and my menu was full of dairy and egg free offerings. That was the beginning of what is today’s Bella’s, and why I offer dairy free, egg free, vegan, and gluten free specialty cakes and cupcakes, so that no child or person has to go without a beautiful cake on their special day.
